I need new hosting

Technical Details

Well, I think I do.

TCH are very good hosts at a very good price, but I'm having major issues with my site being blocked on computers it used to be ok with using IPB which my users can view when they look at other peoples forums, so I think it may be a problem with the shared hosting.

As a result I'm looking at moving, but I'm a skin flint, so haven't much to spend.

I need at least 400mb, 5gb bandwidth, cpanel x php MySql on a linux server at no more than $5 per month, any Ideas.

There was a good list on the old forums here, with one guy recomending hosting that I nearly took last time, but since the rebuild it has all gone Regular Sad

any help would be appreciated by myself and my members Regular Smiley

If cPanel is a definite MUST have, you can stop reading this post here. If you need cPanel because you're hosting other domains for friends and etcetera, you can also stop reading this post here so as not to waste your time. Otherwise, continue on....

GoDaddy has, from my experience, pretty reliable service. I haven't needed to use customer support so I cannot comment on that aspect. Their cheapest plan, as listed on the page linked above, starts at $3.99 / month with 2 months prepaid.

Includes:
• 5GB space
• 250GB bandwidth
• PHP
• MySQL (up to 10 individual databases)

Does NOT include cPanel.

If you are able to prepay for a full year ~$45, it would be only $3.59 / month.

They are very quick at getting new accounts setup, and because they are a domain registrar the propogation time for DNS seems to be quite rapid.

I use www.rpgee.com and have for just over a year now. Click on the services tab on the left menu for some hosting info. I'm pretty sure he uses linux but you'd have to ask. He should probably be giving more info there. I don't see prices listed but I pay about $5 a month and get everything you listed.

The control panel uses plesk. Not sure if you're familiar. I use it to access mySQL and it has a one click backup (which I've never tested restoring from and which doesn't seem to want to happen automatically despite telling it to). The traffic stats it gives are nonexistant, it just gives bandwidth useage. You can asign new my sql users through it as well as install a bunch of apps like phpbb automatically. You'd have to talk to the host about details though.

Hi,
I use HasWeb and find that the service is generally stable and works well. (ok sometimes there are brief problems, but not that often)

Their smallest plan is:

Name: Average
Disk Space: 2000 MB
Bandwidth: 35 GB
Yearly: $48

HasWeb plans
(Yes it is a bit silly, they called the smallest plan Average and the second smallest Basic.)

Stats

There is no one-click backup utility for your files, but you can easily backup your database. It does not appear that you can assign new users, though you can create up to 10 individual MySQL databases.

Just curious, what is your current project? Where is it located?

Looks like a nice little project.

Is it necessary to have cPanel? What are the main features you use in cPanel? Do you host multiple domains on your current hosting package? Subdomains?

How many MySQL users do you have?

Also, IPB is not available as a one-click install on GoDaddy. Other hosts may not have it as an included install either. Do you have access to the actual scripts on your current hosting account, or do you just have access to the admin panel for your site's forum?

I have full access

The cpanel just makes life easy, and I don't need one click installs as I own a IPB licence, besides one click installs tend to be a few versions old.

I've been using smartartist (http://www.smartartist.com.au) who are located in Australia for nearly 5 years. I have four websites hosted with them and I have always found their service and pricing very competitive. They have excellent support and usually respond within 3 hours to any problems if not sooner no matter what the time. If anyone does decide to host with them, please let them know I referred you.

Were you able to work out your Drupal problem, Remmy? I saw your posts earlier this morning, but wasn't able to post til now. And then I noticed your comment here and your other post are gone. Regular Smiley

EDIT: Not trying to redirect the thread, I just didn't think it necessary to create another one and Remmy had originally posted here. :P

Alrighty. Regular Smiley

Well, good luck with your project and with your host search! Hope you can find something reasonable and in your range.

New Worlds Project uses FusedNetwork (http://www.fusednetwork.com) - Their sales and technical support is second to none. The response time is fantastic. They also make good on their agreements, I've only had 1 time when they didn't make their uptime targets for that month, and they gave to all their customers a free month of hosting in compensation. Cpanel, and all of the rest included of course.

Definetely a worthwhile investment.
