RPG Rings - CLEANING and will stay that way...

Announcements

The RPG Nexxus has a web ring service. If you didn't already know about it, find it at http://rpggateway.com/rpgring/ ... works pretty much like the fancy-pants web ring.

Anyway, I have installed and tweaked a program that checks those web rings for number of active sites and valid code.

Nightly, the new program checks each ring for the number of active sites in the ring. If that number is less than one (0), the ring is deleted. This is necessary because of the number of spammers creating new rings with their chosen destination as the 'home page' of that ring.

Daily, the program checks each site in each ring to see if the web ring code is present. This program flags those without code for me to check by hand. If web ring code does not appear on those pages pronto, the site is removed from the ring. This is done for a number of web rings where it does not appear that the original owner is maintaining the ring, yet there are still a number of active sites in it.

If you would like to create a new web ring, by all means do so!

However, AT LEAST ENTER YOUR OWN SITE in the listing. Otherwise, your new ring will be deleted at about 2am EST (about -3 GMT). And, keep in mind that if sites disappear from your ring for no obvious reason, it's probably the maintenance routine working for you.

Enjoy,
