The Sword of Enlien
I keep meaning to get around to this - so at last, thus begins the saga
of The Sword of Enlien. This was intended to be a classic dungeon crawl
set in the Birthright setting
of Cerilia. You will see what I mean by intended as the story progresses.
The opening blurb:
When Suris Enlien used the Sword of Enlien to slay her father, the oppressor, she broke a cardinal rule of her faith - she used an edged weapon. The god Ruornil forgave her, for he knew it was the only option available to the girl at the time. However, since that fateful night, no one else has been able to wield the sword.
The weapon remained in the possession of the regent, but it has surpassed its place as a family relic and become a symbol of Medoere. Lady Suris is waiting for a champion to step forward who can wield the sword in defense of the domain. She has a vision of this champion. He would be a knight of the utmost courage, faith, and battle skill
; a holy warrior with no desire but to keep Medoere safe and free. In short, the vision prophesied that a man of great ability would become Medoere’s champion. The Gorgon has retreated, but no one believes him to be defeated. The days are coming when Medoere will need a champion, but to Suris’s horror, the sword has disappeared from its hiding place!
I advertised with Pbem.com (alas for its demise!) and received many responses within the first week. I narrowed it down to 8 players - why 8, you ask? I know it seems a lot, but one must be prepared for the inevitable drop outs. And we did indeed have two drop outs at the very beginning. The characters began to congregate at the local inn (of course) while the players and I fleshed out and tweaked character
sheets.
The game is being loosely played with DnD 3e rules, and we are making an attempt to keep mechanics
as invisible as possible, so that the game will become more story than dice
rolling. What rolling there is, I do behind the scenes.
Next, the cast of characters and the story begins . . .
